NEW YORK, Sept. 20, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Ryoko Rain, the premium sportswear brand known for its butterfly designs and signature patterned mesh shorts, has partnered with Athlos NYC to launch an exclusive apparel collaboration collection leading up to the 2024 Women’s Track and Field Championships at Icahn Stadium in New York City on September 26, 7pm ET. The collaboration features a custom line of high-quality mesh shorts, shirts and jackets designed by Founder and Creative Director Garrett James. Debuting the apparel line will be Olympic track and field star and Athlos NYC competitor Alaysha Johnson.
The ATHLOS x Ryoko Rain collaboration celebrates the synergy of athletic performance and personal expression through Ryoko Rain’s deep-rooted culture and design narrative and Athlos’ commitment to providing a platform for female athletes to thrive on and off the track. The collection includes three pieces: a pair of high-quality mesh shorts featuring Athlos NYC’s brand colors, a timestamp, soundwave design and Ryoko Rain’s butterfly logo; a limited edition Ryoko Rain cut-off shirt depicting Alaysha Johnson sprinting surrounded by butterflies; and finally, Ryoko Rain’s signature black work jacket. Fans can purchase the limited edition shorts at Athlos NYC locations, while the shirt and jacket will be available for a limited time on Ryoko Rain’s website.
“This collaboration is a testament to how style and athleticism intersect, with gear designed for movement and visual stories inspired by female athletes and Ryoko Laing’s roots,” said Kayla Green, CMO of ATHLOS. “We’re excited to work with a like-minded brand like Ryoko Laing to showcase the speed, music and design of Athlos NYC and create new opportunities for the female running community.”
Aleisha Johnson and Ryoko Laing: A perfect match
An Olympic hurdler known for her incredible discipline and dedication, Johnson is the face of the new Ryoko Rain and ATHLOS clothing lines. Her drive and passion align with James’ vision of luxury streetwear and athletic wear. In the 100 meter hurdles, Johnson set a personal best in shoes borrowed from a fellow hurdler and a uniform she designed herself at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, qualifying for the Paris Olympics.
“I’m excited to team up with Ryoko Laing on this special line,” said Johnson. “The designs are not only stylish, but they have a deeper meaning. I feel confident wearing something that reflects the values I live by in sport: purpose, community and the pursuit of excellence.”
Metamorphosis: The Story of Ryoko Rain
Ryoko Laine was founded in 2021 by Garrett James, whose vision is shaped by his Japanese heritage and family values passed down from his ancestors. This cultural influence is central to Ryoko Laine’s aesthetic and purpose, with each garment designed to tell a story of transformation, resilience and community. Representing growth, change and new beginnings, the brand’s distinctive butterfly symbol embodies the essence of James’ family heritage and is particularly inspired by the experiences of his two eldest daughters, River Ryoko and Alba Laine.
James explains: “Ryoko Rain is more than just clothes – it’s a celebration of our roots and journey. Partnering with ATHLOS, we’re fusing fashion, sport and music to represent something deeper – our shared experiences, our ambitions, where we all come from and where we’re going.”
