Florida State University’s College of Nursing has launched the nation’s first master’s degree program combining artificial intelligence and healthcare, with a curriculum that extends digital health initiatives into clinical benefits for patients through more advanced, efficient and personalized care.
The first-ever Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) major with a major in artificial intelligence is one of two majors debuting in the new MSN program, for which applications opened earlier this month.

The program recognizes the need to equip future nursing leaders with a thorough understanding of emerging technologies, while also working to implement such technologies in a safe and ethical manner.
“AI is rapidly permeating all aspects of our lives, and healthcare is no exception,” said Jing Wang, dean of the college. “As hospitals and clinics begin to adopt artificial intelligence, our master’s program will prepare a new generation of nursing professionals who can harness and leverage these innovative skills and knowledge.”
The launch of the MSN program is part of the School of Nursing’s bold strategic growth plan. The program joins the School of Nursing’s recently launched doctoral program. Both programs will be offered online and will develop a global cohort of nursing leaders at FSU.
Dean Wang hopes that this achievement will bring even more attention to the university’s faculty and their achievements.
“We are leading digital health and healthcare innovation in Florida and across the nation,” she said. “Our faculty are nationally renowned fellows and award winners who bring in millions of dollars in research funding, and I look forward to the future collaborations that this unprecedented MSN program will bring.”
The MSN program offers two entry pathways for both new graduates and registered nurses, as well as an additional concentration in nursing education. The application deadline for the first class for the spring 2025 semester is October 1st.
