ESCANABA — Yes, I’ll say it loud and clear: The Packers must get back to the Super Bowl.
These thoughts and musings came to me on a recent mild September day, so please excuse the lack of focus.
After a bad start to the season opener, would it be wild to go from SP (Sao Paulo, Brazil) to SB (Super Bowl)? Think about it.
Many new rules and practices have been adopted in the NFL in recent years. If the Packers make it to the playoffs and the Super Bowl this time, these new standards will be put to the test. Hopefully, Green Bay will have an advantage.
Another benefit of the Packers playing in the big game is the opportunity to bond with nieces and nephews, who may not remember the last time the Lombardi Trophy was presented to Titletown.
I would also love to see Terry Bradshaw and his TV hosts go wild in Cheesehead Country again. Bradshaw loves to rave about Green Bay being the ultimate football town with a college feel, but unfortunately he’s getting a little old.
I think after the Packers achieve glory once more, networks will be free to hire more female and younger analysts and play-by-play announcers.
If my favorite team were to take the plunge, wouldn’t that be great for Jordan Love and Coach LaFleur? It would be a new era that builds on but breaks from the Favre and Rodgers era.
By the way, my sister Karen is amused by LaFleur’s permanent five o’clock mustache. Maybe we can convince him to grow one, like in the NHL.
A playoff appearance would also bring increased media attention – think of the upcoming Packers-related features, jingles, game intros, logos and more.
Another reason to root for Packer’s success is that she has access to all of her decorations and knick-knacks. Recently, I noticed that she has a perfect dark green placemat in her collection. Also, some sparkly green nail polish. And some green face makeup…
So, although all my hopes for this year may be in vain, one can always have hope.
And, as always, we can be an inspiration to Lions.
