(September 19, 2024) The Portland Department of Transportation (PBOT) is pleased to announce that the final Sunday Parkways event of 2024, hosted by Kaiser Permanente, will take place on Sunday, September 22nd from 11am-4pm in Southwest Multnomah.
Southwest Portland Events The event will feature a 2-mile multi-modal route for cyclists and rowers, and a 1.5-mile route for walkers and runners due to the hilly terrain of the area. Participants can join at any point along the route and head in any direction. These event routes include:Neighborhood GreenwaysOther infrastructure, parks and community resources: Along the route and in featured parks there will be areas with reduced traffic for vendor marketplaces, community booths, free family activities and live entertainment.

The event is particularly notable as Portland’s first Sunday Parkway funded by the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefit Fund (PCEF). Passed by voters in 2018, PCEF invests in community-led projects that support the social, economic and environmental benefits of all Portlanders. The Portland Sunday Parkway’s mission aligns with these goals by connecting Portlanders to neighborhood parks and community resources, encouraging green transportation options and providing comprehensive programming that supports the health and well-being of the community.

On Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., portions of roads in Southwest Multnomah will be closed to vehicle traffic to provide safe, vehicle-free spaces for event participants. Temporary barricades will be set up at intersections along the event route, and volunteers will be on hand to guide participants to their destinations.

TriMet buses 44 –Capitol Hwy/Mocks Crest and 45 – Garden Home will be rerouted during the event from 8:30am to 5:00pm. Bus route changes during the event are included in the map illustration above.
Residents along the route can get back to their homes with the help of volunteers, but are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes to avoid delays. Visit Google Maps for SW Sunday Parkway at bit.ly/swmap24 to see recommended vehicle routes and reroutes for TriMet buses 44 and 45.
