More than half of the WNBA playoff seeding has been decided, with the New York Liberty securing the No. 1 seed on Tuesday night.
The remaining postseason matchups will be determined when the regular season ends Thursday night.
The Liberty defeated the Washington Mystics to earn a home court spot in the playoffs for just the second time in franchise history.
“This is important to us and it was one of the goals we set,” Liberty coach Sandy Brondello said. “We still have to deliver in the playoffs, but we’ve got a great arena and great fans on our home court and we want to play in front of our fans as much as we can.”
The Minnesota Lynx clinched the No. 2 seed after beating Connecticut. Minnesota is the hottest team in the league, having won 13 of 14 games since the Olympic break. They will open the playoffs on Sunday against Phoenix.
The Suns are currently in third place, one game behind Las Vegas, which clinched a spot in the top four with a win over Seattle on Tuesday night. The Aces hold the tiebreaker with Connecticut.
With the loss, the Storm are now locked in as the No. 5 seed, while Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever is locked in as the No. 6 seed and will play their opening game in either Connecticut or Las Vegas.
The final playoff teams have yet to be decided. The Atlanta Dream beat Chicago on Tuesday and are currently in eighth place.
Washington and the Sky are both one game behind the Dream. Atlanta closes its season in New York on Thursday, Chicago visits Connecticut and Washington hosts Indiana that night. The Dream need both Chicago and Washington to lose or lose to advance. The Mystics need both an Atlanta win and a loss. Chicago needs both a Washington win and a loss to reach the postseason.
