The terrifying new series begins in December.
Since its creation in 1979, the Alien franchise has brought terrifying xenos to a variety of disturbing environments, but in the upcoming comic book series, “Alien: Paradise,” these monstrous characters will encounter victims who are perhaps more unprepared than they’ve ever seen them before. Rather than escaping a laboratory or military base or facing off against Colonial Marines, the aliens take over a luxury resort, but the new series respects the idea of unlikely characters banding together to outwit and survive terrifying creatures. “Alien: Paradise” hits shelves on December 11th.
“Alien: Romulus is in many ways a return to the franchise’s roots, so we wanted to give readers a story they won’t find anywhere else,” screenwriter Steve Fox said in a statement. “Setting the story on the sunny shores of a luxury beach resort inhabited by unscrupulous criminals, undercover sheriffs and low-paid employees allowed us to quickly move in a new direction.”
He continued, “But as someone who thinks Alien is possibly the most perfect movie ever made, I’ve stuck very closely to the roots of what I found so terrifying in the first place: a small group of people outgunned in a confined space, pursued by an unknown threat.[Artists]Edgar[Salazar]Peter[Nguyen]and I are committed to bringing you the Alien you know and love and fear in a way you’ve never seen before. Pull up a beach chair and watch out for acid splashes.”
According to a press release, “In Alien: Paradise, the universe’s most terrifying lifeform discovers a feast of fresh victims at a luxury resort, introducing fans to an entirely new side of the Alien universe. But these vacationers are far from innocent, and as the aliens soak this picturesque landscape with blood and carnage, the familiar corruption, greed and terror that permeates the realm of Alien stories rear their ugly heads. In a bold twist, each issue will feature a special alien point-of-view page drawn by Nguyen, allowing readers to see through the aliens’ eyes as they hunt their terrified targets!”
“Welcome to Paradiso, where money flows like blood and blood flows like acid! The Tulum of space, Paradiso is the colony’s hidden gem, with a tropical climate, white sand beaches, and a surprising population of ultra-rich criminals. When colonial sheriffs Dash Nanda and Lydia Reeves were sent there to bust a smuggling ring, they thought they’d hit the jackpot with their work assignment. But only those with a hungry enough spirit to get what they need find luck here.”
Prior to this year, the series’ last film adaptation was 2017’s Alien: Covenant, and since then the spirit of the series has lived on in the pages of various Alien comic books which have explored different points in the series’ universe. Fans were even treated to Alien: What If…?, which explores a world where Paul Reiser’s Carter Burke survived the events of Alien.
The critical and commercial success of Romulus earlier this year has brought renewed attention to the series and likely suggests further developments in the mythos are on the way, with Marvel already confirming that an Alien: Romulus comic prequel will be released later this year.
Alien: Paradise is scheduled for release on December 11th.
