MEMPHIS — Cadence Gilley led Indiana State with three aces and three digs in a four-set match against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the Bluff City Showdown in Memphis on Friday.
Gilley, a senior at Columbus East High School, had seven digs and two aces in Saturday’s three-set win over Lamar.
On Sunday, Cadence Gilley had eight digs and one ace in a four-set loss to Memphis, and Chloe Gilley, a freshman from East, added two digs for the Sycamores (3-5).
Bennett helps Knights win
Sarah Bennett led Marian with four blocks and added five kills and three digs in Wednesday’s three-set Crossroads League win at Bethel.
Bennett, a senior at Columbus North High School, had seven kills and a team-high-tying two blocks for the Knights (12-2, 3-1) in Crossroads’ five-set loss at Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday.
Clark helps Bethany win
Andy Clark had seven digs and an ace for Bethany (West Virginia) in a three-set win at Pittsburgh Greensburg on Tuesday.
Clark, a junior from Hauser, had eight digs and one ace in Thursday’s four-set loss at Waynesburg.
Clark had eight digs and led Bethany with five aces in a four-set win over Lycoming on Saturday, and added 13 digs and led Bethany (6-6) with three aces in a four-set win over Carlow on Saturday.
Parks, Huffman and Butler in losses
INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus East High School senior Malachi Parks completed 4 of 6 passes for 32 yards and added 12 yards on three carries in Hanover’s 53-0 loss to Butler on Saturday.
Columbus North High School senior Blake Huffman had six yards on four carries for the Panthers (0-2).
Bryce wins at center
DANVILLE, Ky. — Tyler Brice caught two passes for 16 yards in Center’s 17-14 win over Maryville (Tenn.) on Saturday.
Bryce, a sophomore from Columbus North, also had three yards on two runs for the Colonels (2-0).
Russell makes Wildcat 8K debut
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Will Russell made his Kentucky 8K debut on Friday, finishing 78th at the Southern Showcase.
Russell, a sophomore from Columbus North who ran at Xavier University last season, ran the five-mile in 25:23.22. He was the Wildcats’ seventh runner and the team finished fourth.
Mateo Mendes
Mateo Mendez, a sophomore from Louisville North, finished in 185th place in 26:23.65. He was the Cardinals’ 12th runner and sixth for the team.
Ramsey joins the Boilermakers
SAVOY, Ill. — Purdue’s Katherine Ramsey finished 95th in Friday’s Big Ten Preview.
Ramsey, a senior at Columbus North High School, ran the 6 kilometers (3.8 miles) in 23 minutes, 55.45 seconds. She was the 12th runner for the Boilermakers and the team placed sixth.
Former Jets player leads Hanover to runner-up finish
HANOVER — Carrie Swegman finished fourth on Saturday to lead Hanover to a second-place finish at the Hanover Invitational.
Swegman, a junior from Hauser, ran the 5K (3.1 miles) in 20 minutes, 38.7 seconds.
Collin Kisler, a freshman from Hauser, placed 17th in the boys’ 6-kilometer (3.8-mile) race with a time of 21:26.9. He was the Panthers’ third-place runner and the team placed second.
