TUPPER LAKE β The Tupper Lake football team used a big second quarter to post a 28-16 win over the Bishop Grimes Cobras in their season opener on the road Saturday.
The Lumberjacks were held scoreless in the first quarter but scored 22 points in the second quarter to lead 22-8 at halftime. The team scored six points in the final quarter while the Cobras added eight.
“I was impressed with how well we continued to play in the heat that day.” “We’re a great team,” Tupper Lake head coach Dennis Klossner said. “It was good to see the guys step up and perform when the opportunity arose.”
The Lumberjacks’ Brayden Shannon led the way with a rushing touchdown and a 28-yard fumble recovery score. Quarterback Wyatt Godin had one passing touchdown and also scored once on the ground. Tupper Lake had 285 yards of offense.
“I’m very proud of our offensive linemen and defensive linemen leading the way for our backs and linebackers.” Klossner said. “Congratulations to linemen Bauer Callahan, Jesse Dattola, Cooper Cuttaia, CJ Levy, Christian Moody-Bell and Brenden Arsenault for their hard work in the trenches, which resulted in 169 yards rushing and 116 yards passing.”
Defensively, Carter Keniston recorded a team-high 12 tackles, Luke Robillard had 10 tackles and Kyler McClain had nine tackles. Keniston, Robillard, Shannon, CJ Levy and Garrett Pelkey ββeach recorded one sack.
“There are a lot of little things we need to work on going into next week.” Klossner said.
The Lumberjacks are scheduled to host Notre Dame of Utica on Saturday at 2 p.m.
