Famed Mexican-American singer Linda Ronstadt has denounced Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s “hatred” as he prepares to host a rally at a hall named after her in Tucson, Arizona.
“Donald Trump will be holding a rally on Thursday in a rented auditorium in my hometown of Tucson. I would love to ignore this sad fact, but the building has my name on it so I have to say something,” the 78-year-old multiple Grammy Award winner said in a statement posted on Facebook on Wednesday evening.
“It is sad to see a former president stage a hate show in Tucson, a city with deep Mexican-American roots and a bright, tolerant spirit. I not only condemn his toxic politics, his hatred of women, immigrants and people of color, his criminal behavior, dishonesty and ignorance, although there is some of that,” Ronstadt added.
She also criticized President Trump’s border policies, particularly the administration’s family separation policies, which have “orphaned thousands of young children and babies and brutally treated desperate mothers and fathers.”
Ronstadt also called Trump a rapist, saying, “Trump first ran for president warning about rapists coming into the country from Mexico. I’m concerned about not putting a rapist in the White House.”
E. Jean Carroll, a New York author, alleged that Trump raped her in a New York department store in the 1990s and then defamed her by denying the allegations. A jury found Trump liable for sexual assault last year.
In addition to Trump, the singer also took aim at J.D. Vance, who has repeatedly criticized childfree people, calling them “babyish cat women” and “psychotics.”
“I am a single mom raising two adopted children in Tucson, both grown and living in their own homes. I live with cats,” Ronstadt wrote, adding, “I am unmarried and childless, so does that make me half a childless cat woman? Say what you want, but this cat woman will proudly be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for President this November.”
According to a report from AZ Family, President Trump is scheduled to speak in Tucson at 2 p.m. and is expected to comment on “high housing prices.”
