STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A vehicle crashed into multiple businesses inside the Manor Road Shopping Center in Castleton Corners on Friday afternoon.
The NYPD told the Advance/SILive.com that a 70-year-old woman was driving a blue sedan when she “lost control” and crashed into several businesses at 754 Manor Road around 2:33 p.m.
The driver was later taken to Richmond University Medical Center in stable condition, an NYPD spokesman said, and no other injuries were reported.
The spokesman added that no criminal activity was suspected.
Emergency responders at the scene blocked off multiple entrances to the shopping plaza, while passersby gathered to get a glimpse of the aftermath.
The entrance to the Superfresh grocery store in the shopping plaza appeared to have sustained extensive damage, with broken glass and pieces of brick wall strewn around the store’s entrance, which was cordoned off by police.
Just a few feet from the damaged façade was a damaged Hyundai, its front covered in broken glass, its bumper missing and its driver’s door leaning against a bollard that lines the sidewalk in front of the store’s entrance.
Todd Hill Wine & Liquor store was cordoned off with tape and the exterior of the store showed significant damage.
On the other side of the parking lot, the wall of a Chase Bank had caved in, exposing what appeared to be concrete blocks.
This is breaking news, more details will be added as they become available.
