There’s a lot to note about Mountain Brook in 2025. As we kick off the new year, we’re highlighting five things to focus on in the new year, including plans for a luxury senior housing development.
In September, the City Council approved rezoning a parcel of land at 2900 Cahaba Road from a local business to a planned unit development (PUD) for a high-end senior living facility.
The 190,000-square-foot facility is expected to have 162 residential units, but the developer has reduced the original plan of 166 units after hearing public concerns. Additionally, the building was pushed further back from Cahaba Street and lowered by one story after residents argued that the original building plan would ruin the feel of Mountain Brook Village.
The developer also added more brick features to the exterior to better blend in with the village’s architecture. Of the 162 units, 98 will be for independent individuals, 32 will be assisted living, and 32 will house people who require full-time care.
City Administrator Sam Gaston said construction could begin in the spring or summer of 2025.
