As the college football season reaches its halfway point, the panel of experts convened to select the 2024 CBS Sports Midseason All-America Team was faced with a number of difficult decisions. So it’s probably no surprise that the voting was spread out to include players from 23 different teams across eight different conferences.
The effects of conference realignment were definitely felt, with the newly expanded Power 4 conferences gaining 20 selections. The SEC led all conferences with eight picks, followed by the Big Ten (five), ACC (four) and Big 12 (three). However, only three teams had multiple selections, two each: Texas, Ohio State, and Iowa. Colorado was the only team with a player in two-way star Travis Hunter playing multiple positions. Notably absent from the team were programs like Georgia, Oregon and Clemson, all of which were expected to be heavily involved in the College Football Playoff after the season.
This year’s unanimous selections include Boise State running back Ashton Giunty and Texas offensive lineman Kelvin Banks.
In an effort to modernize the All-America team and make it more representative of the current game, CBS Sports has adjusted its defensive roster positions in 2022, adding a slot for a defensive back. Additionally, EDGE rushers who vote for their team will be listed on the official team roster.
