What is the X2? The X2 is a compact crossover SUV built at the Regensburg assembly plant in Germany and sold worldwide by BMW. Now in its second generation, it offers more presence, technology and space. The X2 is the more stylish sibling of the BMW X1 and is what the German luxury automaker calls a Sports Activity Coupe. I would call it a compact crossover SUV with four doors and a power-opening rear hatch. Prices start at $42,000.
This is a BMW, so it’s a high performance car with a luxury body. BMWs are all High Performance (HP) cars, and as BMW states with the X2, there are fewer rules and more performance. Every car, crossover, and SUV that BMW makes has some luxury elements built into it.
To prove that point, BMW sent me a 2024 BMW X2 xDrive28i M Sport SUV this week for a test drive and review. The xDrive28i model has a base price of $42,000. Options on this M Sport edition include special metallic paint for $1,200, the Driver Assistance package for $1,700, the M Sport package for $2,500, the Premium package for $4,000, heated front seats and heated steering wheel for $550, and remote start for $300. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is $52,745, minus the $500 M Sport brake credit and plus a $995 delivery charge.
Add in state and local taxes, plus DMV and dealer fees, and the total purchase price comes to $59,338. For under 60 grand, you get an M Sport, high-performance, luxury edition, compact SUV. And you’ll see that BMW’s tagline, “The Ultimate Driving Machine,” isn’t just a slogan. It’s a promise with every vehicle BMW makes, especially its M Sport models.
Power for this X2 M Sport Edition starts with a 2.0-liter BMW Twin Power dual turbo inline four-cylinder 16-valve gasoline engine with VVC variable valve control and high-performance direct injection, producing 241 horsepower (HP) and accelerating from 0 to 60 MPH in just 6.2 seconds. 295 foot-pounds of torque is sent through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters to four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes and an xDrive all-wheel-drive (AWD) traction control system with Dynamic Brake Control.
Performance Control, Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Hill Descent Control and Cornering Brake Control all work together to deliver a fantastic driving experience with complete safety and road control at all times. That’s why BMWs are said to be the ultimate driving machines, and BMWs are truly that at every price point and in every trim package.
The X2 M Sport package comes with 19-inch M Sport double-spoke alloy wheels, seven-speed dual-clutch M Sport transmission, adaptive suspension system, sport seats, M Sport steering wheel, aluminum interior trim, Shadow Line exterior trim, anthracite headliner and M Sport exterior and interior trim with M Sport logos throughout.
The Premium Package includes exterior power-folding side view mirrors, Comfort Access Keyless Entry, Acoustic Glass, Panoramic Sky Roof, auto-dimming rear view mirror, interior camera, Parking Assistant Plus, Wireless Device Charging Pad, Live Cockpit Pro, Digital Key, Active Parking Distance Control, SiriusXM Satellite Radio and a Harmon Kardon Premium Audio sound system with 12 specially positioned speakers and a 360-watt amplifier to create a unique and engaging sound experience in any environment.
The new 2024 BMW X2 made its world debut at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show, which opened on October 26, 2023. U.S. sales of this new compact 2024 BMW X2 xDrive28i M Sport luxury SUV began in March 2024. Currently, all BMW dealerships should have plenty of stock by now.
Of note, every BMW comes with Ultimate Care, a free maintenance program that includes all recommended maintenance items such as engine oil changes, cabin filters, safety inspections, air filters and spark plugs, and is included with your purchase, providing you with free scheduled maintenance for the first three years or 36,000 miles (whichever comes first).
So, call, click, or visit your local BMW dealer for a test drive and bottom line price review of the new 2024 BMW X2 xDrive28i M Sport SUV. Remember, the base price of the new X2 starts at just $42,000. BMW – The Ultimate Driving Machine.
Be smart, be safe, and just breathe. Remember, what you drive is what you are. And maybe for these reasons alone, you should drive a car, or buy a car, today. Have a great day. Drive safe, and enjoy the drive. The future is bright and beautiful. – Tony the Car Guy
