Grant, Mich. – Several departments responded to Grant’s business fire on Thursday evening.
A fire broke out at a commercial facility housed an excavation company on 120th Avenue, according to the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO).
Deputies say the response includes agencies from outside the county.
Grant Fire Station Chief Dean Bouchamp said the first call came before firefighters arrived on the scene before 7:10pm.
“We were 100% fully involved from one end of the building to the other,” he says. “I’m sure the wind played a major factor in that.”
The gusts of winds in New York County were over 43 mph in the evening.
The chief says an explosion was heard inside the equipment inside the building. I don’t know what caused those explosions, but he speculates that they were caused by the tires.
No injuries have been reported.
It is said that it took an hour for 16 departments to put out the fire. Chief Bouchamp spreads gratitude to everyone who helped.
“It’s a cold night,” says Chief Bouchamp. “The crew did an amazing job. They continue to do great work. Everything runs as smoothly as you would expect.”
