A gunman shot dead at least 10 people, including two children, in southern Montenegro on Wednesday, police said.
Public broadcaster RTCG, citing police officials, said at least some of the deaths occurred after altercations between customers inside restaurants in the Cetinje district.
It was later confirmed that the attacker had committed suicide.
The government declared three days of national mourning starting Thursday, with Prime Minister Milojko Spažić describing the shooting as a “terrible tragedy.”
Interior Minister Danilo Saranović said the attacker killed his own family, the restaurant owner’s two children, and the restaurant owner as well.
Saranović called the incident “the result of a disturbed human relationship,” according to AFP news agency.
The prime minister said four people were seriously injured in the shooting and were in life-threatening condition in hospital, the agency said.
Aleksandar Martinovic, 45, fled the scene but was fatally wounded after being surrounded by police who asked him to drop his weapon, police sources said.
Mass shootings are relatively rare in the small Balkan country.
