Ten people were killed and at least 20 injured in an Israeli attack on a school where displaced Palestinians were sheltering in Gaza City’s Shati refugee camp, Palestinian doctors said.
Rescue operations were underway Saturday at the United Nations-run Abu Assi school in northern Gaza, health officials said.
Al Jazeera’s Hind Khudaly newspaper, reporting from Deir El Bala, said that most of those taking shelter in the school had come from other parts of Gaza, according to local residents and witnesses.
“Let me remind you that there is only one functioning hospital in the city…and we know that the health situation in hospitals in Gaza is terrible…so it is difficult to help the injured.” she said.
Palestinian health authorities said at least 30 people were killed in Israeli military attacks across the enclave on Saturday.
In particular, the northern part of the Gaza Strip has been under siege for more than 40 days.
“Israeli forces have surrounded Palestinians in Beit Rahiya, Jabalia and Beit Hanoun and are enforcing a strict blockade. Palestinians are unable to evacuate their besieged homes,” Khodaly said.
