Ten people were injured in a shooting as they waited to attend a private event outside a New York City nightclub late Wednesday night, police said.
At 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, about 15 people were standing outside the Amazura nightclub in the city’s Jamaica section of Queens when four men approached a group of 16- to 20-year-olds on foot.
Three or four men opened fire on the group, NYPD Chief of Police Philip Rivera said at a news conference early Thursday.
Police believe about 30 shots were fired before the suspects fled on foot. They were then seen getting into a sedan with out-of-state license plates.
“These senseless shootings were completely unacceptable,” Rivera said.
Six women and four men were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Footage posted on social media showed a large police presence and several ambulances outside Amazura.
A motive was not immediately known, but Rivera said, “This is not terrorism.”
